Iowa Cubs News Release
DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (72-59) tied their season long losing streak with their fifth straight loss to the Omaha Storm Chasers (60-69), by a score of 11-7, Wednesday at Principal Park.
Omaha didn't waste any time getting on the board, opening the game with a six-run inning. Devin Mann started the scoring with an RBI double followed by a three-run home run from Tyler Gentry.
Already up 4-0, Morgan McCullough used a two-run triple to make it 6-0. The six runs knocked out Caleb Kilian, who allowed five hits and two walks in his one inning of work. Iowa cut their deficit in half in the bottom of the second inning on a three-run home run from Luis Vazquez.
Nate Eaton clubbed an RBI double in the third to make it 7-3, but another three-run home run from the I-Cubs made it a one-run game. This time it came off the bat of Jared Young, his third home run through the first two games of the series.
A bases loaded walk from Gentry made it 8-6 but Bryce Windham knocked an RBI single to move it back within a run. Unfortunately for Iowa, that was as close as it would get, as Omaha padded their lead with a three-run seventh.
Evan Sisk and Dylan Coleman shut Iowa's offense down from there, combining to throw three scoreless innings, striking out two along the way to secure the win.
POSTGAME NOTES:
- Caleb Kilian suffered his second loss of the year, allowing six earned runs on five hits and two walks in 1.0 inning.
- Brandon Hughes allowed one earned run on two hits and two walks while striking out three in his second rehab start with Iowa.
- Ben Brown made his second relief appearance with the I-Cubs, allowing three earned runs on two walks and three hits in just 0.1 innings pitched.
Iowa and Omaha will play game three of their six-game set tomorrow at 6:38 pm. You can listen to all Iowa Cubs games on Hope AM940 and stream them for free on the Bally Live App. For more information and tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
