Louisville Bats News Release

Louisville, KY- In a game that saw 13 runs scored in the eighth and ninth innings, the Louisville Bats (68-64) couldn't hold on to the victory against St. Paul (77-56) to lose 13-8.

Jason Vosler recorded his third grand slam of the season to tie a single-season franchise record in the eighth inning before the Saints rallied.

St. Paul got to work early on offense, plating five runs in the first inning behind three home runs to grab a 5-0 lead through one.

The bottom of the third opened up with a single from Alejo Lopez who would then advance into scoring position on a wild pitch. Walks to both Jacob Hurtubise and Kevin Newman loaded the bases for Jason Vosler, who scored a runner on a groundout. The run was the Bats 813th of the season, setting a new franchise record (812 in 1987). A groundout from Henry Ramos in the following at bat allowed for Hurtubise to cross the plate and cut the Saints lead to 5-2.

Bats righty Randy Wynne (3-4, 6.48) battled back after the long first, covering four innings with one strikeout and allowing just one more run via a solo homer in the fourth which extended the Saints lead to 6-2.

Both sides remained quiet until the bottom of the eighth when Jhonny Pereda led the inning off with a double and was followed by Jose Barrero who reached on a walk. Pereda would score thanks to a one-out double off the bat of Alejo Lopez, trimming the deficit to 6-3.

Still in the eighth, Kevin Newman reached on a fielder's choice which scored another run and kept the bases remained loaded Vosler. He proceeded to launch his third grand slam of the season, giving the Bats their first lead of the ballgame at 8-6.

St. Paul responded in the top of the ninth in a big way, scratching seven runs across, including a grand slam of their own, giving the Saints the lead once again at 13-8 where it would hold the rest of the way.

The series continues with game three on Thursday with a 6:35 p.m. first pitch scheduled. Brett Kennedy (4-2, 3.52) will take the hill for Louisville while Randy Dobnak (4-8, 4.84) is expected to go for the Saints.
