Bridgeport Islanders News Release
HARTFORD, CT - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, shutout the Hartford Wolf Pack 1-0 on the road Friday as Rookie All-Star Goaltender Wade Dubielewicz made 33 saves for his franchise-single-season-record eighth shutout, his fourth versus Hartford, and 20th win of the year. Dubielewicz is now on a four-game winning streak and is unbeaten in his last six games at 5-0-1.
The Sound Tigers took the first, and only, lead of the game with just 45 seconds left in the first period as Cail MacLean worked the puck from behind the Wolf Pack net to Ryan Kraft who took a shot that was stopped, but Jeff Hamilton backhanded the rebound past Hartford Netminder Jason LaBarbera for his League-leading 37th goal of the season. The play was similar to the one on which Kraft scored the game-winning goal, off assists by Hamilton and MacLean, with 3:55 left in Wednesday ¬â¢s 2-1 road win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
The Sound Tigers oushot the Wolf Pack 12-7 in the second period, but LaBarbera stopped all 12 shots, including a pretty poke-check save on Martin Kariya.
Hartford outshot the Sound Tigers 15-6 in the third period and pulled LaBarbera in favor of an extra attacker at the start of a power play with 2:23 left to play but could not tie the game as Dubielewicz slammed the door shut.
Dubielewicz was the first star of the game, LaBarbera was the second star with 26 saves, Hamilton was the third star of the game with his AHL-best 14th game-winning goal. The Sound Tigers were 0 for 6 on the power play while the Wolf Pack were 0 for 7 and had a 33-27 shots on goal advantage.
The Sound Tigers will play the third and fourth of seven straight road games when they visit the Binghamton Senators tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. and the Albany River Rats Sunday at 5 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live at www.soundtigers.com. Sunday ¬â¢s game will also be broadcast live on 600 WICC-AM.
The Sound Tigers will finish the stretch of road games when they visit the Philadelphia Phantoms next Friday and the Norfolk Admirals next Saturday and Sunday. The Sound Tigers' next home game will be on Wednesday, March 31st when they host Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at 7:05 p.m.
