Dogs Pummel Goldeyes 13-0 in Opener

WINNIPEG, Man. - Behind three homers and ten extra-base hits to back a stellar start from Jake Dahlberg, the Chicago Dogs rolled to a 13-0 series-opening win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes on Thursday night at Shaw Park.
The Dogs set a new season-high in extra-base hits while tying the franchise record for margin of victory. Long balls from David Olmedo-Barrera, Victor Roache and Gustavo Pierre sparked the offense as Chicago dominated its opponent for the second straight night.
Dahlberg (W, 7-6) delivered a vintage performance, allowing just three hits and two walks with four strikeouts over seven shutout frames in the win.
Chicago got to Goldeyes starter Joel Seddon (L, 2-5) in the second inning for two runs to give them an early lead. Back-to-back doubles to start off the inning from Kelly Dugan and Jordan Dean put the Dogs ahead 1-0. Two batters and a double play later, Dean found himself at third and soon came home to score off a Rey Gonzalez single.
The Dogs added one more in the third on a bases-loaded walk with one out to Dean, giving him two RBI in two trips to the plate and putting his team ahead 3-0.
Chicago piled on with a four-spot in the fifth inning. Gustavo Pierre doubled in two runs, and Edwin Arroyo scored Pierre on a single, his third hit of the day, to quickly make it 6-0. Keon Barnum notched his league-leading 80th RBI of the year to score Tony Rosselli on a single. Through five innings, the Dogs offense had tagged Seddon for seven earned runs on 12 hits and four walks, pulling Mitchell Aker out of the Winnipeg bullpen in the sixth.
The Dogs continued to pour on the offense with a four-run seventh. Olmedo-Barrera launched his eighth homer of the year to push the lead to eight. Three batters later, Roache demolished his 20th long ball of 2019 to put Chicago up by double digits.
Pierre's solo homer and Arroyo's RBI single completed the onslaught in the eighth.
Jalen Miller and Harrison Smith combined for two scoreless frames to secure the shutout win.
The Dogs continue their series against the Goldeyes on Friday night at 7:00 PM. They will send Carlos Zambrano (2-0, 5.23 ERA) against righty Kevin Hilton (0-1, 3.86 ERA).
