AirHogs Drop Both Legs of Doubleheader to Kansas City
August 16, 2019 - American Association (AA)
Texas AirHogs News Release
The AirHogs received 2 great starting pitching outings today but unfortunately could not come away with a win in either end of a double header with the Kansas City T-Bones. They dropped the first game 3-2, and the second 4-1.
Cui Enting got his first start of the year in game 1 and was brilliant. He allowed just 2 hits across 5 innings of one run baseball. The only run Enting allowed was a second inning solo home run off the bat of the shortstop O'Malley. Tu Jialun was the first man out of the pen for the AirHogs but he unfortunately allowed 2 runs, 1 earned, while getting only one out in the 6th inning. Liu Goquing came in relief of Tu and got the job done, working the final 1.2 IP allowing no runs on just one hit.
The AirHogs bats woke up late again, plating a run in the bottom of the sixth, making it a 3-1 game. Stewart Ijames nearly homered to right center, instead settling for a leadoff triple. With one out and Ijames at 3rd Chen Junpeng provided a deep fly ball to left, allowing Ijames to score on the sacrifice.
Then in the bottom of the 7th Cao Jie doubled with one out and then scored on a Justin Byrd single. The AirHogs could not get the tying hit however. The game ended with an Ijames strikeout with runners on first and second.
Game 2 was off to a great start for the Hogs. Chen Junpeng stayed hot driving in a first inning run and putting the team up early 1-0. But unfortunately that was all the offense the Hogs would have in game 2.
Zech Lemond would allow just a solo home run across 5 innings of work, striking out 2 and walking none. It was the best Lemond has looked since June. Unfortunately the bullpen would allow 3 runs, this time in the 6th inning. Pete Perez thought he ws out of the inning, but a misplayed ball at short by Yang Jin allowed the inning to continue and the next batter Casey Gillaspie homered, putting the game out of reach at 4-1.
The AirHogs are off Thursday before taking on the T-Bones game 3 of a 3 game, 2 day series. sThe AirHogs will toss RHP Erik Manoah and the T-Bones will counter with All-Star RHP Tommy Collier.
