August 24, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Rochester Red Wings News Release
The International League announced today that Durham first baseman Richie Shaffer and Rochester pitcher Pat Dean have been named the League's Batter and Pitcher of the Week for the period from August 17-Â23.  Dean's award is his second and the eighth overall for Rochester this season, along with Tommy Milone (2x), Tyler Duffey, Oswaldo Arcia, Reynaldo Rodriguez, and Byron Buxton.  Shaffer is the fourth member of the Bulls to be so honored this season, following Dylan Floro, Corey Brown, and Taylor Motter.
RICHIE SHAFFER, Durham Bulls    IL BATTER OF THE WEEK
Durham's Richie Shaffer hit .387 over the past seven days and led the International League with twelve hits, three home runs, nine RBI, eight runs scored, and 24 total bases while sparking the Bulls to a 6-Â1 record for the week.  Shaffer, who had never had a multi-Âhomer game prior to joining the Bulls in late May, produced his fourth two-Âhome run game with Durham in Wednesday night's 17-Â2 pounding of the Mud Hens.  He added another blast in Friday's victory, which was also his third consecutive multi-Âhit game.  Since the time he was promoted to Durham, Shaffer has led the International League with 19 homers and a .620 slugging percentage.  24-Âyear-Âold Richie Shaffer is in his fourth season as a professional after being selected by Tampa Bay in the first round of the 2012 draft.  He spent the entire 2014 campaign with Double-ÂA Montgomery and led all Rays farmhands with 19 home runs. His MLB debut came earlier this month with the Rays, as he saw action in eight games and hit two homers.  Shaffer is a native of Flemington, New Jersey.
PAT DEAN, Rochester Red Wings      IL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Left-Âhander Pat Dean turned in his League-Âleading third shutout and fourth complete game of the season in Wednesday's 6-Â0 defeat of the Buffalo Bisons.  He scattered six hits while striking out six without a walk as he evened his record on the year at 10-Â10.  In the process he became the franchise's first pitcher with three shutouts in a season since Rick Krivda in 1997 when the Red Wings were affiliated with Baltimore.  The victory helped Rochester keep pace in the IL North and Wild Card races.  On the year, Dean is 2nd in the IL with 157.0 innings pitched and has an ERA of 2.92, good enough for 8th-Âbest in the circuit. 26-Âyear-Âold Pat Dean is in his sixth season as a professional pitcher.  He was Minnesota's 3rd round pick in 2010 out of Boston College.  He spent the entire 2014 season with Double-ÂA New Britain, posting an 8-Â9 record with a 4.81 ERA.  Dean is a native of Waterbury, Connecticut.
