August 24, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Buffalo plated three in the ninth, but the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (58-71) held on for a 7-4 win over the Bisons (65-65) on Monday night at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown.
Holding a 7-4 lead and pitching for the third consecutive day, Pigs RHP Dustin McGowan (1.0 IP, 2 H) worked out of a bases loaded nobody out jam in the ninth to notch his 13th save of the year.
All three Buffalo runs in the ninth were charged to RHP Dalier Hinojosa (1.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, K) as Matt Hague knocked home a pair with a two-run single and Munenori Kawasaki delivered an RBI single of his own.
The Bisons took a 1-0 lead with a run in the first as Dalton Pompey drew a leadoff walk, moved to second on a walk, to third on a double play and scored on Alex Hassan's RBI single.
A three-run second gave the IronPigs a 3-1 lead as Tyler Henson (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI) came through with a two-run double and Gabriel Lino (2-4, 2B, RBI, 2 R) delivered a run with an RBI double of his own.
In the home half of the third, Brian Bogusevic led off with a single and scored on Erik Kratz's RBI double to extend the Lehigh Valley lead to 4-1.
Kratz (2-4, 2B, 3 RBI) struck again with a two-run single in the fourth to open up a 6-1 advantage for the IronPigs.
Buffalo starter Jeff Francis (5-3) gave up the six runs (four earned) on nine hits while fanning four over four innings of work.
Pigs starter David Buchanan (4-1) allowed a run on four hits to go along with five walks and a strikeout in 5.0 IP.
The IronPigs plated a run in the seventh to take a 7-1 lead as Bogusevic (1-3, SB, 2 R) drew a leadoff walk, stole second, took third on a throwing error and scored when Russ Canzler reached on an RBI fielder's choice. The run was unearned.
RHP Colton Murray (2.0 IP, BB, K) tossed two scoreless frames in relief for manager Dave Brundage's squad.
Chase d'Arnaud (2-5, R) also had a multi-hit game for the Pigs.
The series continues on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. from Coca-Cola Park as RHP Sean O'Sullivan (2-2, 3.86) will be on the bump for the Pigs against Bisons RHP Chad Jenkins (8-3, 2.26).
