Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
WILMINGTON, DE - Carlos De La Cruz homered and drove in three while Hunter Markwardt drove in the game winning runs with a two-run single in the eighth as the BlueClaws won their third straight game, topping Wilmington 9-5 on Thursday night at Frawley Stadium.
Jersey Shore (44-52) has won the first three games of their series with the Blue Rocks (43-55).
The BlueClaws fell behind 4-0 after one inning but battled back to win going away. Trailing 4-0, Jersey Shore got two runs in the third on bases loaded walks to both Adam Haseley and DJ Stewart.
De La Cruz, who did not start the game but entered in the second inning, then tied the game with a two-run home run in the fourth inning, his second since re-joining the BlueClaws last week.
Wilmington took a 5-4 lead on Justin Connell's RBI single in the seventh, but the BlueClaws responded again to pull away.
De La Cruz tied the game with an RBI single before Hunter Markwardt put Jersey Shore ahead with a two-run single for a 7-5 lead. Adam Haseley added a SAC fly for a four-run eighth. Nick Matera, who was added to the roster earlier in the day on Thursday, homered to give Jersey Shore a 9-5 lead.
Jonas De La Cruz, no relation to Carlos, threw five scoreless innings in relief of starter Jonathan Hughes, who was charged with all four first-inning runs. Mark Potter (1-2) gave up one run in two innings while Aidan Anderson and Erubiel Armenta threw scoreless innings to close out the win.
Matera, De La Cruz, and Nicolas Torres all had two hits for the BlueClaws.
The teams continue their series on Friday night at 7:05 pm.
