Sacramento River Cats News Release

West Sacramento, Calif. - The Sacramento River Cats (20-25) used five home runs, including the team's fourth grand slam of the season, to rout the Reno Aces (29-17) on Sunday afternoon.

Sacramento broke the game open quickly, wasting no time as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead on Reno in the first inning. First baseman Joe McCarthy contributed to the early damage by doubling home a pair of runs. Then another four runs were put up in the fourth inning, this time on one swing of the bat. Outfielder Jaylin Davis, who has put on a show since joining the club on a rehab assignment, launched his second grand slam in his last seven games. It was also his sixth homer in a 12-game span.

The River Cats had one more four-spot up their sleeve, doing so for a third time in the seventh inning thanks to the second set of back-to-back home runs by Jason Krizan and Chadwick Tromp. In consecutive innings, both Krizan and Tromp left the yard, giving the River Cats a season high five homers.

Matt Frisbee, making his fourth start for Sacramento since being transferred from Double-A Richmond, is scheduled to be on the mound for game five of this series. He'll face a yet-to-be-named starter for the Reno Aces. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. (PT). Listen to Johnny Doskow call the game online at rivercats.com or on the MiLB First Pitch app.

Additional Notes

Sunday was the club's first five-homer game since August 22, 2019 - another game in which Davis was involved. In a 9-3 win on the road against the El Paso Chihuahuas, outfielder Joey Rickard was the star as he secured his first and only multi-home run game of the year. For Davis, it was the 10th and final long ball he would hit in River Cats uniform until returning to the club in 2021.

Right-hander Kervin Castro tossed two more scoreless relief innings, bringing his streak to eight innings without allowing a run. During the process, Castro has struck out seven and surrendered three singles and two walks..
