Bees Walk off on Walk

June 27, 2021 - Pacific Coast League (PCL)
Salt Lake Bees News Release

Jo Adell worked a walk-off walk to give the Bees a 10-9 victory over the Las Vegas Aviators on Saturday night at Smith's Ballpark.

The two teams traded offensive blows early in the game with the Bees taking a 6-5 lead into the fourth inning. Both pitching staffs would settle down and keep the score 6-5 entering the eighth inning. Austin Allen put Las Vegas in front with a three-run homer in the top of the inning, but the Bees responded with a two-run home run from Jose Rojas to tie the game at 9. The Aviators then retired the first two Bees batters in the bottom of the ninth before Preston Palmeiro doubled, Jack Mayfield was intentionally walked and Matt Thaiss drew a walk to load the bases for Adell, who worked a nine-pitch walk to give the Bees their second walk-off victory of the season.

Rojas recorded the first five-hit game for Salt Lake in over two years, finishing 5-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI. Mayfield also hit two home runs finishing the night 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI. James Hoyt picked up his first win as a Bee by pitching a scoreless ninth inning.

The Bees and Aviators meet up for game four of the series on Sunday afternoon. First pitch for the matinee is scheduled at 1:05 p.m.
