Lee Records 900th Strikeout, Reno Loses to Sacramento, 16-7

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Reno Aces fall to the Sacramento River Cats, 16-7, on Sunday afternoon at Sutter Health Park.

Despite picking up the loss, Zach Lee recorded his 900th career strikeout, sitting Bryce Johnson down on five pitches. The Aces' starter also picked up his first hit of the season, smacking a double down the right-field line in the fourth.

Ildemaro Vargas put forth his best performance of the season, falling a triple shy of the cycle with his 3-for-5 showing at the dish.

Seth Beer extended his hitting streak to three with a single in the eighth.

After a scoreless top of the first, Sacramento scored four unearned runs in the home half after a throwing error, a two-run double and an RBI single.

The Aces slashed its deficit to three, 4-1, in the second frame following a one-out single by Christian Lopes. Reno's second baseman advanced to second on a wild pitch before Ben DeLuzio dropped a single in front of Sacramento's right fielder to knock in Lopes.

Reno continued to hack away at the River Cats' lead in the third, putting one run on the board. Ildemaro Vargas slapped a one-out double before Seth Beer walked and both advanced on a wild pitch. After a walk to Lopes to load the bases, Stuart Fairchild took four straight balls to bring Vargas in from third, 4-2.

The River Cats increased its lead to six in the bottom of the fourth on a Jaylin Davis grand slam to go up, 8-2.

Blake Lalli's club battled to slash its deficit in half, 8-4, with a two-run shot by Lopes in the top of the fifth after Jamie Ritchie registered a walk.

Sacramento scored twice in both the fifth and sixth innings on a pair of RBI singles and two solo home runs.

Following a four-run seventh by the River Cats to increase their advantage, 16-4, the Aces put a three-spot on the board in the top of the eighth. After a leadoff walk to DeLuzio, Jake McCarthy smacked his first Triple-A double to right to cut the lead, 16-5. Two pitches later, Vargas drilled a two-run shot to left to cap off Reno's scoring, 16-7.
