Aviators Stun Bees in Extras

The Las Vegas Aviators completed a late comeback to defeat the Salt Lake Bees 5-3 in 10 innings on Sunday afternoon at Smith's Ballpark.

After allowing the first two batters to reach base, Bees starter Thomas Pannone settled in to log a quality start. Pannone allowed five hits and two runs while striking out four in six innings of work. Pannone was backed by scoreless innings from Aaron Slegers and Felix Pena. The Aviators led off the 9th with a triple and tied the game on a sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the ninth the Bees nearly walked off for the second straight game, but Jon Jay was thrown out at the plate. In extra innings Cody Thomas hit a two-run homer for the Aviators in the top of the 10th to give the Aviators a 5-3 lead they would hold onto for the victory.

Preston Palmeiro continued a hot streak with a three-hit game. Jake Gatewood drilled his 12th home run of the day with a solo shot in the third inning. With the victory Las Vegas has tied the six-game series at two games apiece.

Game five of the series is scheduled for Monday night at Smith's Ballpark with first pitch at 6:35 p.m. Monday nights are Smith's Family Night, fans can purchase four tickets for $20 and hot dogs are $1 each.
