Wheeling Nailers News Release

TRENTON, NJ - Curtis Darling stole the show by stopping all 38 shots in a Wheeling Nailers 1-0 win over the Trenton Devils Thursday night at Sovereign Bank Arena. It was the first shutout for a Wheeling Nailers goalie this season but second of the year for Darling. His first came as a member of the Charlotte Checkers on Nov. 30, 2007 in just his second professional start.

Matt Byrnes was the only player in the game to earn a point, scoring an unassisted tally at 11:16 of the first period. He walked out of the corner and centered a pass that bounced of a defender's skate and between the legs of Jason Smith. It was the fourth goal of the year for the rookie from Merrimack College.

Darling took care of the rest. He made a number of brilliant saves throughout the course of the game as he stopped 11 shots in the first, 14 in the second and an additional 13 in the third. Smith continued his strong play by stopping 20 of 21.

The win gave Wheeling the win in the season series in their final meeting of the season with the Devils. The Nailers won the last two contests against Trenton and finished 5-4-1 against them this season.

Wheeling returns to the ice for the highly anticipated "Moondog Bobblehead Night." The first 2,500 fans will receive a mini-bobblehead of the local legend. The game against the Cincinnati Cyclones will start at 7:35pm but the doors to the arena will open at 5:30pm. See www.wheelingnailers.com for a complete list of rules and procedures or to buy your tickets for Saturday. Tickets are also available by calling 304-234-GOAL or by stopping down to the Nailers office at 1315 Main St.
