Augusta Lynx News Release

The Charlotte Bobcats Arena will be a place that the Augusta Lynx will be happy to say goodbye to this season. Thanks to a 4-2 win by the Checkers on Thursday night, the Lynx went winless this season in Charlotte. It was a game the Lynx played well in and had two different leads, but for the second straight game, those leads slipped away with the Lynx unable to respond to pressure from the home team. The Lynx got the game off to the right start as #7 Travis Fuller tipped home a pass from #20 Matt Auffrey and more help from #11 Matt Christie to give the Lynx a 1-0 lead. The Checkers responded less than two minutes later with a tip-in goal from Blake Bellefeuille to tie the game at 1-1 at the end of the 1st period. The Lynx began the 2nd period on the power play and responded with a goal from #20 Matt Auffrey, who poked home a loose puck thanks to hard work down low from #25 Adrian Veideman. The Lynx lead would be fleeting however, as late in the 2nd period a two-minute stretch cost the Lynx the game. The Checkers tied it thanks to a 1 on 1 goal from Kaleb Betts, who appeared to beat screened goaltender #35 JP Levasseur over the right shoulder. Then Tom Pyatt beat two Lynx defensemen 1 on 1 and slipped in a shot from the right wing past Levasseur's blocker side to give the Checkers a 3-2 lead they would never lose. The Lynx had several chances in the 3rd period and goaltender #30 Bobby Goepfert replaced Levasseur in net, but the Lynx could not equalize. Late in the game, and with the goalie pulled, the Lynx could not muster any type of offensive rush and Bellefeuille sealed the game with an empty-net goal putting the Lynx losing skid at three games.
