Alaska Aces News Release
LAS VEGAS - Chris Beckford-Tseu stopped all 29 shots he faced as Alaska blanked Las Vegas 3-0 to regain sole possession of first place in the West Division before 4,386 Thursday at Orleans Arena.
For the second straight game, Josh Soares gave Alaska a 1-0 lead after the first period, scoring his team-leading 33rd goal of the season (and eighth in his last six games) at 8:19 from the right circle after a crisp, cross-ice pass from Peter Metcalf, who assisted on all three goals. Unlike Tuesday's game, however, the Aces managed to stretch that advantage in the second period, as Bo Cheesman buried a rebound with Alaska on a power play 33 seconds into the frame, his 29th of the year.
Las Vegas had precious few scoring chances in the third period, and after taking back-to-back penalties late in regulation, watched helplessly as Matt Shasby set up F.P. Guenette in a five-on-three situation to account for the final margin with under a minute to play. Beckford-Tseu now has 11 career shutouts and owns a 33-3-2 career record in regular season play over the last three years in an Alaska uniform.
The Aces, who have won 17 of their last 20 games and 10 of their previous 12 on the road, and Wranglers meet in the series finale tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m. ADT, the final game of Alaska's two-week road trip. The game will be broadcast live on AM 750 KFQD, with coverage beginning 15 minutes prior to the opening face-off. The Aces, now two points ahead of idle Victoria and Idaho in the West, wrap up their home schedule next week with a three-game series against Phoenix that opens Wednesday night at 7:15 p.m. in Sullivan Arena.
