TRENTON, NJ (March 20, 2008) - The Trenton Devils looked to carry the karma from their three-game winning streak last weekend into tonight's home contest against Wheeling, but found themselves foiled by Curtis Darling and a tough bounce in the first frame, 1-0.

Darling made 38 saves on all 38 shots he faced, earning the second shutout of his season. The Nailers' netminder had several impressive stops in the course of the game, but was also helped by two ringers off the pipes.

Wheeling scored the lone goal of the contest on a stroke of luck 11:16 into the first period. Matt Byrnes, pushed into the left corner of the Devils' zone, found his shooting lanes cut off.

Instead of trying to force a wide-angle shot, the forward centered the puck, where it bounced off of a skate and a broken stick to go through a surprised Jason Smith's legs. It would be the only goal of the game.

Smith stopped 20 of 21 shots for a tough-luck loss; he has allowed just two goals in his last four contests.

Darling has excelled against Trenton the last two times he has faced them. The netminder has recorded 91 saves against 93 shots.

The Trenton Devils continue their homestand at Sovereign Bank Arena with a vital game against the Dayton Bombers, the team they chase in the standings. The puck drops tomorrow, March 21 at 7:30pm.
