Darling Named Goaltender Of The Week For Second Time This Season

WHEELING, W.Va. - Wheeling Nailers goaltender Curtis Darling was named the Reebok ECHL Goaltender of the Week for the March 2-8. It was his second weekly award this season, with the first coming for the week of Nov. 17-23.

Darling was impressive last week in both of the Nailers' wins over Johnstown. The 25-year-old went 2-0-0 and stopped 87 of the 90 shots he faced with a goals-against average of 1.50 and a save percentage of .967. He stopped all but one Johnstown shot on Friday, March 6 and all but two of the Chiefs' 50 shots on March 7.

Darling has won his last three starts to improve to 4-1-0 with a goals-against average of 2.41 and save percentage of .941 in his last five starts. The Calgary, Alberta native is third in the ECHL with 1,266 saves and is fourth with 2,488 minutes played. He has played in 42 of the Nailers' 50 games this season and is 20-127-5 with one shutout and a season goals-against average of 3.42 and a save percentage of .899.

Darling went 7-17-3 with a goals-against average of 3.60 and a save percentage of .914 in 27 games with Wheeling last season. He also had one shutout in 2007-08 with the Nailers and has made AHL appearances with Syracuse and Manchester.
