Wheeling Nailers News Release

It's been quite a season for Bryan "Boomer" Ewing. The first ever Wheeling native and WAHA product to play professional hockey has been tearing it up with his original hometown team in his rookie season.

With Ewing's next goal he will become just the 6th Nailer all-time to join the 40 goal club and the first to do it in 12 years. John Varga was the most recent to do it in a Wheeling jersey when he led the league with 56 goals in the 96-97 campaign.

Ewing is currently 3rd in the league in goals. The last time a Wheeling Nailer finished in the top 5 in goals was 03-04 when Jason Jaffray placed 3rd with 37.

The last time a Wheeling Nailer finished in the top 5 in points was 96-97 when John Varga finished 4th with 101 points. Ewing is currently 2nd in the league in points with 76 and is currently on an 8 game point streak with 6 goals and 6 assists over the stretch.

The season started off innocently enough for Ewing as the Boston University product would score just one goal in his first 8 games. But after that his scoring pace rapidly picked up as he went from 5 goals in November to 9 goals in December and then 14 goals in January that also saw a 7 game goal scoring streak including 2 of his year's 3 hat tricks.
