South Carolina Stingrays News Release

Biloxi, MS - The South Carolina Stingrays power play came through in impressive fashion, scoring all three of the Rays goals, en route to a 3-2 victory over the Mississippi Sea Wolves at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.

"Our power play really stepped up for us tonight," said Head Coach Jared Bednar. "I didn't really like how we came out in the first period, but we really played well for the second half of the game."

The Stingrays took the early 1-0 lead in the game on Scott Romfo's 7th goal of the season. While the Rays were on the power play, four on three, Travis Morin found Romfo at the bottom of the near side circle. Romfo was able to wrist the puck past Ryan Munce for the early lead. The goal came at 3:51 and was assisted by Morin and Josh Godfrey. At 11:05 of the period, the Sea Wolves were able to tie the game up at one on a shot from the top of the near side circle past Jonathan Boutin. The game would remain tied heading into the second period.

The second was a scoreless affair until the 13:55 mark when the Rays took their second lead of the night. While on the power play, Morin was able to knock a rebound of his own shot past Munce to make it a 2-1 score. The goal was assisted by Maxime Lacroix and Romfo. After the Rays went 0-12 on the power play in their last two games, they were able to get a pair of them through the first two periods of play giving themselves the lead going into the third period.

Mississippi would tie up the game in the third period at the 3:50 mark on a goal by Mathieu Melanson making it a 2-2 game. Less than two minutes later the Rays would get their third power play goal of the game, giving them their third lead of the night, 3-2. The goal, coming off the stick of Jeff Corey, came at 5:28 and was assisted by Bryson Busniuk and Patrick Wellar. The goal would end up being the difference maker, as the final would end up 3-2.

The winning goaltender was Boutin who stopped 35 of the 37 shots he faced. The losing goaltender was Munce who stopped 38 of the 41 shots he faced. The Rays went 3-6 on the power play while killing off all five short handed situations they faced.
