Wheeling Nailers News Release

WHEELING, W.Va. - It has been quite a run for the Wheeling Nailers over the past five weeks. They have recently won six of their last eight games, and one of those home wins at WesBanco Arena came in front of a sellout crowd of over 5,400. To boot, the Nailers have reclaimed one of four available playoff spots in the North Division.

As encouraging as things have been on the ice recently, it has been equally impressive to see the fans' commitment over the last eight home games. In fact, the Nailers set a personal goal of selling 16,000 tickets over a 5-game period from Jan. 31 through Feb. 28, a goal that was shattered by nearly 3,000 tickets.

The game with the highest attendance over the 5-game stretch was on Feb. 28 against Trenton. The first 2,500 people in attendance received a free Coal Miner Spike bobble head, and all of the nearly 5,500 in attendance got to see the Nailers hand the Devils a 3-2 loss thanks to Reid Cashman's game-winning goal and some brilliant goaltending by David Brown.

An average of 3,183 tickets were sold for the Nailers' pair of games against the Johnstown Chiefs over this past weekend, continuing a streak of three straight home stands with an average of 3,000 fans per game.

Wheeling is currently tied for second place in the North Division with Johnstown. The Nailers have three important games coming up this week. The team travels to Reading on Wednesday, then to Johnstown on Saturday before returning home to battle Johnstown at WesBanco Arena on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. All kids 14 and under will get into Sunday's game for free with the purchase of adult ticket. The Nailers' last 3-game home stand of the season is the weekend of March 20-22. Relay at the Rink, ice hockey's version of Relay for Life, will come to WesBanco Arena for the Nailers' games on March 20-21.

The Nailers will donate a portion of every ticket purchased through the American Cancer Society for games on March 20-21, and the players will wear special purple jerseys during the March 20 game against the Dayton Bombers. Those jerseys will available for purchase in a live auction at the arena following the game.

Families can also purchase the Friday Family Four Pack for March 20th, which includes four tickets, four soft drinks, four hotdogs and one bag of popcorn for just $44.

The first 2,500 fans in attendance at the March 21 game against the Reading Royals will receive a B.E. Taylor bobble head courtesy of Ohio Valley Medical Center and WTRF TV-7. Taylor will also play live at WesBanco Arena following the game.

The March 22 game is another Pups-n-Pucks night. Fans may bring their dog to the game for free. Call the nailers office for more information. It is also Sunday Family Funday, where fans can skate with the Nailers following the game. Fans must provide their own skates and gloves.

The Nailers have just six home games remaining in the regular season and look forward to having large crowds on hand to cheer them on as they make their final push for the playoffs. To order tickets, call 304-NAIL-TIX or log on at wheelingnailers.com.
