Wheeling's Darling Named Reebok ECHL Goaltender Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Curtis Darling of the Wheeling Nailers is the Reebok ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Mar. 2-8. He also received the award for Nov. 17-23.

The 25 year old was 2-0-0 with a goals-against average of 1.50 and a save percentage of .967 posting back-to-back wins against North Division rival Johnstown. He turned aside 39 of 40 shots in a 6-1 win on Friday and then made 48 saves in a 5-2 win on Saturday.

Darling, who is under contract to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League, has won his last three starts to improve to 4-1-0 with a goals-against average of 2.41 and a save percentage of.941 in his last five starts.

The Calgary, Alberta native is third in the league with 1,266 saves and is fourth with 2,488 minutes. He has played in 42 of the Nailers 50 games and is 20-17-5 with a shutout, a goals-against average of 3.42 and a save percentage of .899.

Darling was 7-17-3 with a shutout, a goals-against average of 3.60 and a save percentage of .914 in 27 games for Wheeling in 2007-08. He was acquired by the Nailers in exchange for future considerations on Jan. 2 from Charlotte where he was 3-4-0 with a shutout, a goals-against average of 2.94 and a save percentage of .881 in eight games with the Checkers. He also played in the AHL stopping all four shots in one game with Syracuse and making 12 saves in a game for Manchester.
