D-Fenders Acquire Lazar Hayward and Michael Holyfield in Two Separate Trades

EL SEGUNDO - The Los Angeles D-Fenders have acquired forward Lazar Hayward and a fifth round pick in the 2016 NBA Development League Draft from the Erie BayHawks in exchange for two second round picks in the 2016 NBADL Draft, it was announced today by General Manager Nick Mazzella. In a related move, the D-Fenders have acquired center Michael Holyfield and a fourth round pick in the 2016 NBADL Draft from the Iowa Energy, in exchange for Zach Andrews and two fifth round picks. This trade is contingent on physicals.

Hayward has seen action in 72 career NBA games for the Timberwolves and Thunder, tallying 2.9 points and 1.3 rebounds in 8.2 minutes. The 6'6" forward has also played in 17 NBADL games for the Tulsa 66ers (2011-12) and D-Fenders (2012-13), averaging 17.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Signed by the D-Fenders on December 30, 2012, Hayward earned a GATORADE Call-Up the next day to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

A standout at Marquette University, Hayward finished his career as the program's second all-time leading scorer (1,859 points) and fifth all-time leading rebounder (910 rebounds), averaging 13.5 points and 6.6 rebounds in 138 career games. As a senior in 2009-10, Hayward tallied 18.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 1.5 assists per game.

Undrafted in the 2015 NBA Draft, Holyfield joined the Memphis Grizzlies for the 2015 Orlando Summer League, averaging 6.4 points and 4.2 rebounds in 14.3 minutes. Holyfield joined the Boston Celtics for the Las Vegas Summer League, before signing with the Grizzlies for training camp. After being waived from the Grizzlies, Holyfield joined the Iowa Energy of the NBADL, tallying 3.4 points and 4.5 rebounds in 12.6 minutes.

Holyfield attended Sam Houston State (2011-15), averaging 5.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.5 blocks for his career. The 2015 Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Holyfield set the school's single-season record for blocks with 86 in 2014-15.
