Bighorns Outlast the Jam

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Reno Bighorns defeated the Bakersfield Jam 138-135 Thursday night at the Dignity Health Center in Bakersfield, CA. The Thursday night victory over the Jam has the Bighorns tied with the Austin Spurs for the first place ranking in the Western Conference.

David Stockton scored his season high against the Jam with 32 points and adding eight assists. Vince Hunter netted 30 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Hunter finished the night going 11-11 from the field. Reggie Hearn added 27 points, eight rebounds and two assists for the Bighorns while Cliff Hammonds had 20 points, six rebounds and nine assists.

Ricky Ledo led the Bighorns in the first quarter with seven points and three rebounds as Hunter, who went 3-3 from the field, counted seven points in the quarter. Hammonds had four points and four rebounds in the first.

In the second quarter, Stockton notched nine points while Hearn scored eight points as added two rebounds. Hammonds had five points in the second quarter.

The Bighorns went into the locker room at the half trailing the Jam 60-53.

Stockton paced the Bighorns in the third quarter with 10 points and four assists as Ledo notched 10 points and two rebounds in the quarter. Hearn followed Ledo and Stockton closely, netting nine points and adding two rebounds in the third.

The Bighorns found their groove in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Jam 46-36. Hunter netted 16 points and added three rebounds in the final quarter while Stockton had 11 points. Cliff Hammonds counted 11 points, three rebounds and three assists in the quarter. The Bighorns shot 73 percent from the field in the fourth quarter compared to the Jam shooting 43 percent from the field.

The Bighorns and the Jam exchanged the lead 17 times during the contest.

The Bighorns return to the Reno Events Center Sunday, Jan. 31 at 3 P.M. to host the Santa Cruz Warriors. All fans who wear any NFL jersey or Sacramento Kings gear will receive a $10 ticket special. The first 1000 fans in attendance during the Sunday contest will receive a Bighorns tumbler.
