D.C. United News Release
Washington, D.C. (January 22, 2013) - D.C. United and Assistant Coach Pat Onstad today announced that the two have mutually agreed to terminate his contract. Onstad - widely considered to be one of the top goalkeepers in MLS history - had joined United's coaching staff prior to the 2011 season. In 2012, Onstad coached starting netminder Bill Hamid to a career season, with Hamid setting highs in GAA (1.03), saves (88), shutouts (8) and wins (13). At the end of the 2012 campaign, the Academy product finished with the best saves percentage (78.6%) in MLS and boasted the third-lowest GAA (minimum of 1,000 minutes played) in the League.
"We would like to thank Pat for his time and efforts here at D.C. United and wish him the best of luck in his future career," said D.C. United General Manager Dave Kasper.
As a player, Onstad featured for the San Jose Earthquakes and the Houston Dynamo for a combined eight seasons, helping the Dynamo win back-to-back MLS Cups in 2006 and 2007 after raising the trophy with San Jose in 2003. The Canadian international earned 57 caps throughout his career, most all-time for Canadian goalkeepers.
