Toronto FC Add Pat Onstad to Staff

Toronto FC announced Tuesday it has named former Canadian international goalkeeper Pat Onstad as Chief Scout and Manager of Football Partnerships.

A native of Vancouver, B.C. Onstad, 44, has spent the past two seasons on D.C. United's staff as an assistant coach. He came out of retirement in 2011 to play in three matches for D.C. due to injuries at the goalkeeper position.

In addition to his duties as chief scout, Onstad is responsible for liaising and managing relationships with football clubs in Major League Soccer and internationally. He will also work with football agencies and foreign soccer development academies.

"I had the pleasure of working with Pat at D.C. United and have great respect for him. He's meticulous, diligent, and he knows our league very well," said Toronto FC President and General Manager Kevin Payne. "He's a perfect fit for this role and will be a great asset for our club."

Onstad had a successful playing career, winning three MLS Cup championships, the first in 2003 with the San Jose Earthquakes and two with the Houston Dynamo in 2006 and 2007. In 2005, he won the Supporters Shield with the Earthquakes.

Onstad was named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year and to the MLS Best XI both in 2003 and 2005. With the Canadian National Team, Onstad earned 57 caps and was part of the 2000 CONCACAF Gold Cup championship side. He was named Canadian Player of the Year in 2003.
