Whitecaps FC Select Six Players in MLS Supplemental Draft

VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC selected six players in the 2013 Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft on Tuesday. The club used their first two picks on University of Notre Dame midfielders Adam Mena (10th overall) and Michael Rose (11th overall). Harvard University striker Brian Rogers was picked in the second round (29th overall) followed by Duquesne University centre back Adam Clement (31st overall). Striker Joshua Patterson - also from Duquesne - was selected in the third round (48th overall) and Amherst College striker Alejandro Sucre rounded out the picks in the fourth round (67th overall).

Mena, 23, looks to enter the professional ranks following five years at the University of Notre Dame. During his time with the Fighting Irish, the 5-foot-10, 145-pound midfielder appeared in 55 matches, registering six goals and five assists before suffering a season-ending ACL injury in the first match of his senior year. The Holland, Michigan, native also spent three seasons with the Indiana Invaders of the United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League (PDL), where he registered 14 goals in 16 matches. As a result of his efforts with the Invaders, Mena was named to the PDL All-Central Conference team in 2011.

Rose, 22, also spent five seasons alongside Mena at Notre Dame. The 6-foot-2, 170-pound midfielder registered four goals and six assists in 41 matches. The Severna Park, Maryland native was named a team captain in 2012, but was forced to sit out the entire season due to an ACL injury suffered in the preseason.

Rogers, 22, spent four seasons at Harvard University. During his time with the Crimson, the 6-foot-2, 180-pound forward registered 14 goals in 53 matches. In his sophomore year at Haravrd, the Bronxville, New York, native received NSCAA All-Northeast Region second team honours.

Clement, 22, played four seasons with the Duquesne University Dukes. In his time with Duquesne, the 6-foot-4, 195-pound defender registered four goals and six assists in 71 matches. The Erie, Pennsylvania native received 2011 Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team honours for his efforts during his senior season, when he registered three goals and four assists. Patterson, 21, was a teammate of Clement the last four years at Duquesne. In his time with the Dukes, the 6-foot-2, 180-pound striker registered 27 goals and eight assists in 73 matches. In 2012, he received Academic All-America Division I Second Team and Atlantic 10 All-Conference honours. Sucre, 22, played four seasons of NCAA Division III soccer with the Amherst College Jeffs. In his time with Amherst, the 6-foot-5, 205-pound striker registered 11 goals and nine assists in 49 matches.
