Colorado Rapids News Release

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Tuesday, January 22, 2013) - The Colorado Rapids have acquired the rights to midfielder Nick LaBrocca, who played 61 games with the Rapids from 2007-2009, in a trade with Chivas USA. In exchange, Colorado sent the rights to Eric Avila, which had been acquired in the 2012 Re-Entry Draft, to the Los-Angeles based club.

LaBrocca is currently out of contract and the Rapids may now work to negotiate a new contract with the player.

LaBrocca, 28, was drafted by the Rapids with the 35th overall selection in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft, and played two first-team matches with Colorado in his first season, also leading the club to the Reserve Division championship. He became a regular starter over the next two seasons, playing 30 games in 2008 and 29 in 2009, before a 2010 trade to Toronto FC that brought Marvell Wynne to the Rapids. He moved to Chivas USA in 2011, when he played all 34 games, scoring eight goals and being named to the MLS All-Star Team. In his MLS career, he has 15 goals in 152 regular-season matches (141 starts).

The Rapids will see their first competitive action of the 2013 preseason next week when they travel to Arizona to participate in the Desert Friendlies presented by Tucson FC, followed by the Las Vegas ProSoccer Challenge against Chivas USA on February 15.
