
Cyclones Sign Former NHLer Marc Labelle

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL, announced Sunday (Feb. 18) that former NHL veteran forward Marc Labelle has signed with the club.
Labelle, 37, will play in his first professional game in seven years this afternoon as the Toledo Storm roll into U.S. Bank Arena at 2pm. A veteran of ten professional seasons, Marc appeared in 521 games, collecting 48 goals and 88 assists for 136 points and amassed 1891 penalty minutes. During his career, Labelle played four seasons with the IHL's Cyclones (1993-94 through 1995-96 and 1997-98), playing 208 games and tallying 13 goals and 17 assists for 30 points and 684 penalty minutes. The 684 penalty minutes are the second-most in a career by an IHL Cyclone player.
Labelle played in nine games in the National Hockey League with the Dallas Stars during 1996-97, collecting 46 penalty minutes during his stint there. The Maniwaki, Quebec native was a member of the 1995-96 Cyclones team that won its division and played in the seventh game of the Eastern Conference Finals against Orlando, in Cincinnati. His 218 penalty minutes were a team-high and 14th most in the league that season.
Labelle began his pro career with the ECHL's Richmond Renegades in 1990-91, playing in five games, netting a goal and an assist and 37 penalty minutes. He has not appeared in an ECHL game since that season.
The Cincinnati Cyclones have had seven players leave the club since Wednesday (Feb. 14), as Torry Gajda, Erik Johnson and Jarred Mohr were dealt to Pensacola for Travis Lisabeth and Mike Wirll on Wednesday, goaltender Cedrick Desjardins was recalled by Hamilton (AHL) on Thursday (Feb. 15). Forward Jimmy Bonneau went to Hamilton (AHL) on Saturday (Feb. 17) and forward Mathieu Aubin was recalled by Hamilton (AHL) this morning. Defenseman Nick Martens was signed by Bridgeport (AHL) this morning as well.
