Bombers game suspended
February 18, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Dayton Bombers News Release
Dayton, OH- The Dayton Bombers and the Columbia Inferno arrived to the rink expecting to play a complete hockey game this evening, but, only managed 24 minutes before the game was called due to unsafe ice conditions at the Ervin J. Nutter Center.
ECHL referee, Nick Suhy, noticed that the ice was starting to melt inside of the goaltender's crease and stopped play because he felt the conditions were dangerous for both goaltenders (Dan LaCosta for the Bombers, Robert Gherson for the Inferno). The Nutter Center ice crew did everything possible to correct the problem, however, the only realistic solution became additional hours necessary for the ice to properly freeze. Both teams were sent to the locker room and fans were advised of the postponement.
The Bombers had a 1-0 lead after the first period and for the first 3:47 of the second period due to Matt Herniesen's unassisted goal (10) at the 9:05 mark of the opening period of play.
Team officials in concert with the ECHL, referees and players determined that the game will be completed tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m. at the Ervin J. Nutter Center.
Fans who attended this evening can redeem their tickets for any of the (14) remaining home games as well as free parking for that game at the Nutter Center. Tomorrow mornings (2) period game will be a FREE event. Seating will be General Admission and parking will be FREE.
Although it was announced on tonight's internet broadcast that when the game resumes tomorrow morning so will the broadcast, due to the fact that Bombers radio announcer Andy Sanzotta will need to fill in as the Public Address Announcer, the game will not be rebroadcast.
