Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Manitoba Moose and the Vancouver Canucks, battled back in the third period and settled the three-game series with a 4-3 victory in overtime.

At 4:06 into the first period, the Salmon Kings began a two-man advantage powerplay and capitalized twice. A clearing attempt by Stockton was stopped by Wes Goldie and he spotted Kiel McLeod in the right slot to beat a screened Devan Dubnyk for the Victoria 1-0 lead. On the ensuing 5-on-4 advantage, the Salmon Kings cycled the puck to Goldie who snapped it top corner shortside from the bottom of the right circle for his 31st goal of the season.

Still in the opening frame, Troy Bodie moved the puck along the left boards with his skate and sparked a give-and-go down low with Nathan Martz. Bodie tallied his 19th goal of the season going five-hole on Victoria Netminder Julien Ellis. The Thunder gathered momentum and followed a five-minute penalty kill with a powerplay goal to tie the game. With 3:49 remaining in the first period, Stockton chased a dumped puck into Salmon Kings territory and kept it along the right boards. Stephane Goulet chipped in his 11th goal of the season on the glove side of Ellis for the 2-2 tie.

Stockton nabbed their first lead of the game with 4:58 left in the second stanza. Bodie earned his second goal of the game as a shot from Mike Lalonde rebounded to Bodie perched in front of the Victoria crease.

In the third period, Derek Krestanovich scooped the puck from behind the Thunder net to feed his brother Jordan Krestanovich for a one-timer to tie the game 3-3.

The Salmon Kings journeyed into their eight overtime of the season. A shot from the blueline from Defenseman Paul Ballantyne popped onto the stick of Goldie as he rushed the net and poked in his second goal of the game for the overtime winner.

Final: 4-3 Salmon Kings (OT)

Ellis earned a Salmon Kings record 14th win of the season, and Dubnyk was handed his fourth overtime loss. Victoria was 2 for 7 on the powerplay and Stockton scored once in five chances with the man advantage. The Thunder outshot the Salmon Kings 38-34.
