Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals (22 - 24 - 6 = 48; 5th North Division) scored one and allowed one-on the first penalty shot goal against in the history of the team-to end up in the shootout, where Reading turned the penalty shot table and won over the Wheeling Nailers, 2-1. Goaltender Jeff Pietrasiak (13-15-2; 27/28) made twenty-seven stops in the 65 minutes of game time, including several big stops at big moments, and all four he faced in the shootout for his second shootout win as a pro.
After a scoreless first, the Royals struck at the 8:40 mark of the second period, when Jon Francisco broke in on the right wing and fired a snap shot on Wheeling goaltender Andy Franck (19 - 22 - 3; 30/31). Franck stopped the original shot as well as a rebound attempt by Ned Lukacevic before John Snowden found the loose puck at the top of the crease and banged it home for his tenth goal of the season. Wheeling tied the score at the 14:47 mark of the second on a penalty shot that was awarded after a mad scramble in front of the Royals net. Jordan Cameron took the shot and, after a brilliant move, became the first player to ever score a penalty shot goal against the Royals in team history. The teams played scoreless hockey throughout the remainder of regulation time and five minutes of sudden death overtime, thanks in large part to some great goaltending at both ends of the ice. In the shootout, the Royals got goals from Jon Francisco and Shawn Collymore, while Pietrasiak stopped all four Wheeling shooters.
The Royals continue their six game home stand on Wednesday night (6:35 pm) against the Cincinnati Cyclones, when the team will honor the Reading Phillies and the first 1000 fans twenty-one years or older will receive a Royals/Phillies plastic "batting helmet". Royals' game night broadcasts can be heard live on ESPN Radio 1240 am (and on the internet through the Royals' website, www.royalshockey.com), beginning thirty minutes before the opening face-off. Streaming video is also available for $6.00 per game through the B2 Networks, which can be accessed through the Royals' website.
