Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
ELMIRA, New York - The Cincinnati Cyclones ran their winning streak to a club record twelve games with a 5-1 win at Elmira on Saturday night. Dov Grumet-Morris stopped 48 shots in picking up his 20th win of the season.
The Cyclones scored the two goals in the first period in building a 2-0 lead. Cory Urquhart took a bouncing puck in the left slot and fired home his 14th goal of the season at 13:04 to open the scoring. Jason Deitsch and David Desharnais added the assists on the power play goal. A little more than four minutes later, Urquhart threaded a needle through the center ice zone to send forward Matt Syroczynski in on a breakaway. Syroczynski faked right and then snapped his shot from the left side for his 20th goal of the year at 17:12. Elmira outshot Cincinnati, 17-7, in the opening frame.
The second period had no scoring with Cincinnati outshooting Elmira, 14-9.
A pair of shorthanded goals in the third period from Jason Deitsch, on a penalty shot and Scott Reynolds helped salt away the game after Desharnais had made the score 3-0 early in the final frame. It was the 25th time this season that Cincinnati had a three goal period.
Dov Grumet-Morris stopped 48 shots in the game, it was his sixth straight win. Grumet-Morris is 18-1-1 in his last 20 decisions dating back to Nov. 4.
The Cyclones began their eleven game winning streak against Dayton on Jan. 16 in a 3-2 win. The club has outscored the opposition, 48-18, during the run.
For the first time in team history, the Cincinnati Cyclones are 29 games above .500, with a 37-8-3 record and sole possession of first place in the North Division-13 points ahead of second place Elmira. The triumph gives Cincinnati a 21-2-1 record since December 15. Elmira is 30-15-4. The magic number for clinching a playoff berth is eight.
Cincinnati is next in action on Thursday (Feb. 21) with a 7:30pm showdown vs. Dayton at U.S. Bank Arena.
