This tied the contest at 5:42. The Everblades would follow up with another tally. This time it was Ernie Hartlieb taking a shot during a two-on-one break slipping the puck between the legs of Ayers giving Florida a 2-1 lead at 7:08. Florida would strike during a power-play and it was a bad angle shot by Brad Zancanaro that hit the leg of Ayers and snuck into the net at 8:23. This gave Florida a 3-1 lead. The Everblades would receive two more goals from Brad Herauf and Preston Callander. Charlotte surrendered five unanswered goals during the middle stanza putting Florida up, 5-1.

Chris Holt would start the period in the net for the Checkers as Ayers was pulled after 40 minutes.
