Las Vegas completes comeback for 5-3 victory over Salmon Kings

The Salmon Kings and Las Vegas Wranglers met for the second game of a two-game set on Saturday night. Victoria had a comeback win on Friday night in a match-up of the National Conference's top two teams.

The Salmon Kings hit the scoreboard first when Robin Gomez notched his first goal of the year when he beat Vegas netminder Kevin Lalonde five-hole. Victoria increased the lead when Kiel McLeod came out from behind the net, and after being stopped on his initial shot was able to pound the rebound in. The Wranglers lit the lamp when Bruce Mulherin put a rebound past Kings' netminder Billy Thompson. The Salmon Kings led 2-1 after the first period.

Dylan Yeo made it 3-1 for the Kings when he snapped a shot top corner blocker side past Lalonde. That would end Lalonde's night as Las Vegas coach Glen Gulutzan put Daniel Manzato in the net. That would spark the Wranglers. Ryan Donally put a rebound past Thompson on the power play to make it 3-2. The Wranglers would tie it up just over a minute later when Peter Ferraro put another rebound past Thompson. With 9.5 seconds to play in the period Tyler Mosienko scored on a breakaway after a turnover in the Kings end. The Wranglers led 4-3 after forty minutes.

Las Vegas played good defensive hockey in the third period and held the Kings at bay. Mulherin added an empty net goal for the Wranglers. Las Vegas 5 Victoria 3.

The Salmon Kings went 1/5=20% with the man advantage and the Wranglers went 2/5=40%. Las Vegas out shot Victoria 45-21.

The Salmon Kings are off to Phoenix for a Monday evening game versus the Roadrunners. Game time is 7:11 p.m. Victoria returns home on Wednesday for a big three game set versus the defending Kelly Cup Champion Idaho Steelheads. The first game goes Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. Call 220-7889 for tickets.
