CINCINNATI, Ohio - A pair of goals 41 seconds apart in the first period proved to be the catalyst in a 7-3 victory over Reading on Tuesday night. Olivier Latendresse netted three goals and added an assist in the victory.
The Cyclones entered the night having scored at least two goals in the first period in six of seven games this season. The club would erupt for four scores in seven minutes of the opening frame in building a 4-0 edge.
Thomas Beauregard and Olivier Latendresse netted goals 41 seconds apart to give the Cyclones a 2-0 lead. Beauregard collected his sixth of the season 11:12 into the game with Mark Van Guilder and Matt Syroczynski handing out the assists. Latendresse picked up his fifth goal at 11:53 from Jimmy Kilpatrick. Later in the opening stanza at 15:25, Michael Cohen tallied his fourth score from Ben McLeod and Kyle Rank. In the final moments of the opening period, the scoring continued, as Latendresse collected his second of the night at 17:58 from Tom Sawatske and Kilpatrick.
In the second period, Reading scored the first three goals to cut the deficit to 4-3. Mac Faulkner collected his second goal 45 seconds into the stanza. Matt Herneisen tallied his second goal of the campaign on the power play at 13:38. Kirk MacDonald netted his third goal on a shorthanded effort at 16:45. Cincinnati responded 33 seconds later on that same power play, as T.J. McElroy picked up his first of the season from Barret Ehgoetz and Latendresse.
Beauregard scored his second of the night and seventh of the season from Frederic St. Denis and McElroy at 14:14 and Latendresse closed out the scoring at 16:30 from McElroy to sel the 7-3 win. Reading outshot Cincinnati for the game, 36-24.
Kyle Gajewski improved to 2-2-1 with the win, stopping 33 shots. Danny Taylor dropped to 1-4 by turning aside 17 in the loss.
The Cyclones are 3-3-2 on the season, while Reading is 3-5. The Cyclones continue their four game homestand this weekend (Friday and Saturday) versus Elmira. Friday night is Faith Night with the band New Method performing postgame. Saturday is Throwback Night, featuring Stingers jerseys on the players that will be auctioned off after the game. In addition to $7 tickets, there will be hot dogs and pizza slices and selected domestic beers for one dollar.
