BILOXI, MS - Riku Helenius made 40 saves and Augusta got goals from six different scorers as the Lynx (4-3-1) defeated the Sea Wolves 6-3 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on Wednesday night.
The Lynx rocketed to a fast start with three goals in the first nine minutes. At 7:40, Joel Hanson scored his first pro goal to give Augusta a 2-0 advantage. Just 1:13 later, Matt Auffrey tallied his fourth score of the season to put the Lynx up 3-0. Dallas Steward netted a power play goal late in the first and after 20 minutes of play, the Lynx led 4-1.
Mathieu Melanson scored to open up the second period scoring, cutting the Lynx lead to two but that was as close as Mississippi would get. Travis Fuller made a great individual effort, protecting the puck, and Michael Mullen finished the play with his second goal of the year to make it 5-2. RJ Linder tallied his first pro goal in the third. It came on the power play as the Lynx finished the seven game road trip with a 6-3 win in Mississippi. Fuller, Chase Watson and Kevin Quick added two assists each in the victory.
Augusta concludes the trip with a 4-2-1 record on the road. Mississippi out shot the Lynx 43-30. Augusta finished with a pair of power play goals, going 2 for 6 while Mississippi went 1 for 8.
The Lynx now return home for a pair of games on Friday and Sunday at James Brown Arena.
