Charlotte Checkers News Release
Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers announced today the renewal of their partnership with Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont. This is the second year the Checkers have partnered with the regional Goodwill agency with programs and events scheduled at Time Warner Cable Arena throughout the 2008-2009 season.
"Our partnership with Goodwill is an important one because it gives the Checkers and our fans another direct avenue to impact the local community in a positive way," stated Aaron Osborne, senior vice president for the Checkers.
As part of the Checkers - Goodwill partnership, the team will host two donation collection nights during the season on November 15, 2008 and March 27, 2009. Fans who donate new or gently-used clothing items to Goodwill will receive a complimentary ticket to an upcoming game. Additionally, the Checkers will host two Goodwill group event nights during the season to recognize graduates of Goodwill's job training programs.
"Goodwill is pleased to once again be associated with the Charlotte Checkers and their brand of family-focused entertainment," said Bo Hussey, vice president of marketing and communications for Goodwill. "By bringing our two organizations together, we hope to create awareness of the work Goodwill does in the local community. With more donations and sales at our retail stores, we can further support our training programs that benefit families."
Proceeds from the sale of donated goods at Goodwill's 19 Charlotte-area retail stores fund job training and employment services for individuals facing barriers to employment such as disabilities, lack of skills, experience or education. In 2007, Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont delivered more than 11,200 services, placed more than 2,200 people in employment and diverted more than 35 million pounds of goods from area landfills.
The Checkers are in the midst of their 16th season of play as a member of the ECHL. The Checkers next home game is slated for Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 7 PM versus the South Carolina Stingrays. In the team's 15-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 11 times including four consecutive playoff appearances to date. The Checkers are entering their fourth season of play at Time Warner Cable Arena. Season tickets are on sale now with full-season packages starting at just $396.
