Cutters Sweep Spikes; Remain Unbeaten

The Williamsport Crosscutters tagged the State College Spikes pitching staff with eight runs on Sunday evening in Happy Valley. The Cutters took control of the game in the top of the first inning as Jose Pujols drove in Zach Coppola and Venn Biter with his third double of the season. The Cutters would add to their lead in the third inning as Brendon Hayden launched his first home run as a professional driving in Pujols to make it a 4-0 game.

The Cutters got 5 innings out of starter Jose Taveras who was able to silence the Spikes bats in his first start of 2015. Taveras scattered four hits while walking one batter and striking out five. The Cutters would use four pitchers on the night with the Spikes picking up their only run in the sixth inning against Anthony Sequeira. Rob Tasin and Skylar Hunter combined to toss three scoreless innings in their professional debuts.

Jose Pujols finished the night 2 for 5 with two doubles and Brendon Hayden went 4 for 5 on the night with his first home run in a Cutters uniform. Venn Biter continued to swing the bat well finishing 2 for 4 with two RBI on a single in the fourth inning.
