West Virginia Tops Scrappers Twice

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers (1-2) dropped both games of a doubleheader to the West Virginia Black Bears (2-1) on Sunday afternoon.

In Game 1, Mahoning Valley got out to an early 2-1 lead. A Silento Sayles single and Willi Castro double added two more for Mahoning Valley. Scrappers led 4-1. West Virginia then added one in the bottom of the sixth on a RBI ground out for Ulises Montilla.

In the bottom of the seventh, Mitchell Tolman doubled. He scored on a Maximo Rivera single. Ty Moore singled to score David Andriese. Logan Hill singled on a ground ball to Nate Winfrey at third with nobody out, but Rivera scored to win the game for West Virginia.

In Game 2, West Virginia got a 3-0 lead. Logan Hill hit an RBI double to make it 1-0 WV. In the bottom of the third, Ty Moore hit a 2-run single to score Mitchell Tolman and Kevin Kramer.

Mahoning Valley scored their two runs in the top of the sixth. Anthony Santander hit is second home run of the season. Ka'ai Tom, in his first professional game, reached on an error that allowed Gerald Bautista to score.

The Scrappers continue their road trip with three games in Batavia against the Muckdogs.
