Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Game One
Summary
The IronBirds dropped a 15-inning, rain suspended affair on Sunday to the Hudson Valley Renegades by a final of 2-1. Inclement weather paused things in the bottom of the seventh inning on Saturday, but the game resumed on Sunday afternoon and took 15 innings to complete.
Taking The Lead
Ronarsy Ledesma gave the IronBirds an early 1-0 lead with a triple to score Ademar Rifaela. Manny Sanchez misplayed the ball coming in too far, allowing the ball to soar over his head giving Rifaela enough time to score from second base.
Leveling The Playing Field
Hudson Valley tied the score at 1-1 when Jake Cronenworth scored off of a double to centerfield from Angel Moreno.
Welcome Back
LHP Travis Seabrooke took the mound after a year off rehabbing an injury. Seabrooke pitched a career-high five innings, allowing only one earned run with another career-high five strikeouts.
Going The Distance
The rain delay suspended the game on Saturday, to Sunday afternoon where the game went into extra innings. The IronBirds had their chances to score in the thirteenth inning where they loaded the bases twice, once with no outs, but were unable to score.
Decisive Blow
The Renegades broke their drought in the fifteenth when Danny De La Calle hit a single to right field to score Alex Schmidt from second.
Game Two
Summary
The IronBirds were swept away in the opening series by the Hudson Valley Renegades on Sunday evening, falling by a final of 9-1 in a seven-inning game.
Quick Deficit
Hudson Valley scored early with a sac-fly from Hector Montes to score Jake Cronenworth in the first frame.
Taylor Hawkins followed with an RBI double to make the score 2-0.
The scoring continued in the fourth inning with a pair of RBI singles from Jake Cronenworth and Jose Paez increasing the score to 4-0.
The fifth inning saw two more runs from the Renegades with an RBI double from Nic Wilson to score Taylor Hawkins, and an RBI single from Cade Gotta to score Nic Wilson.
It's a Start
Aberdeen was able to push a run across in the bottom of the fifth inning when Drew Turbin hit into a bases loaded double play to score Alexander Lee.
A Valley Too Deep
With the score at 6-1 heading into the sixth, Taylor Hawkins hit an RBI triple down the first base line before scoring himself from a two-run home run shot from Alex Schmidt to make the score 9-1.
Birdwatching
The IronBirds were swept by Hudson Valley in the opening series for the second straight season... Last year the IronBirds lost five games before their first win and were 1-16 to start the year.
