Auburn Doubledays News Release

BATAVIA, NY - Once again, the Doubledays came through when they needed to. After scoring four runs in the tenth to beat Batavia last night, Auburn scored seven in the ninth today to sweep the Muckdogs.

After the two teams battled back and forth throughout the afternoon, Batavia took a 5-2 lead into the ninth inning. Juan Guzman, who threw two scoreless innings on Friday, came in to shut the door in the ninth, but instead suffered through a long outing.

David Kerian led off the inning by working a walk. Randy Encarnacion, Jorge Tillero, and Luis Guzman then followed him up with back-to-back-to-back singles to tie the game up. Then, with Edwin Lora batting, Dalton Dulin advanced to second on a balk that allowed Guzman to score from third and give Auburn a one run lead.

After Lora walked, Matthew Page launched a three-run homer over the right field fence to give the Doubledays a 9-5 lead. It was Page's second homer of the season and ended what was previously an 0-4 night for the outfielder.

After Diomedes Eusebio and Kerian flied and grounded out respectively to end the inning, Joey Webb came in to shut the door.

The lefty forced three straight groundouts against the meat of the Muckdogs' order and the Doubledays took the 9-5 win to finish off the sweep. It marks the first time since 2008 Auburn opened up the season at 3-0.

The Doubledays look to continue their hot start tomorrow on the road against the State College Spikes at 7:05 PM.

Sunday's Particulars:

WP - Joey Webb (1-0)

LP - Juan Guzman (0-1)

SV - None

HR - AUB: Matthew Page (2), BAT: None
