The Spikes take on their SawBuck Series rivals, the Williamsport Crosscutters, in the final game of a three-game series between the two teams. State College has opened the season against Williamsport in nine of the franchise's 10 seasons, and the Crosscutters provided the opposition for the first game in Medlar Field at Lubrano Park history on June 20, 2006. The Spikes are 56-54 all-time against Williamsport, and won the 2014 SawBuck Series by going 10-2 against the Crosscutters, the most lopsided season-ending result between the two teams since the rivalry's inception in 2006.

-LAST GAME: Ronnierd Garcia collected four hits and ended up just a triple short of the cycle, but the Williamsport Crosscuters scored six runs in a rainy ninth inning to deal the State College Spikes a 7-6 loss on Saturday night at Susquehanna Bank Park at Historic Bowman Field. Garcia, making made his first start of the 2015 season, started the scoring with a solo home run to left-center field in the third inning. The third baseman then produced a pair of doubles and a single in a perfect night at the plate. Despite his efforts and a four-run ninth that staked the Spikes to a five-run lead going to the bottom of the rain-soaked inning, Venn Biter's grand slam drew the Crosscutters within a run. After a pair of walks and a groundout that moved runners to second and third, Grenny Cumana then lined a ball to center field that just barely missed the glove of a diving Thomas Spitz to score a pair of runs and give Williamsport the win.

-MARTINEZ GETS NOD FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Dailyn Martinez gets the ball tonight for State College in his return to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Martinez earned the win against Williamsport on June 16 of last year before being transferred to Rookie-level Johnson City. The Santiago, Dominican Republic then shone in the Appalachian League playoffs, picking up a pair of wins, including the victory in the deciding third game of the Appy League Championship Series to give Johnson City the title. Martinez's home ERA was 3.41 last year, as opposed to a 6.26 mark posted on the road.

-WILLIAMSPORT SENDS TAVERAS TO MOUND TONIGHT: Right-hander Jose Taveras will make the start for the Crosscutters this evening. Taveras, a native of the Dominican Republic's capital city of Santo Domingo, went 8-4 with a 1.05 ERA for the Dominican Summer League Phillies in 2014, including a nine-inning, complete-game shutout of the DSL Tigers on July 2. The righty struck out 70 batters and walked just eight in the DSL last year, and posted 11 strikeouts over eight innings on July 8 against the DSL Angels.

-THAT CHAMPIONSHIP FEELING: Nine players who appeared for the Spikes during last year's championship season return to the club at the dawn of the 2015 season. Friday's starting pitcher, Ian McKinney, is joined by fellow returning hurlers Tyler Bray, Dailyn Martinez and Kender Villegas on the Opening Day staff. The Spikes also welcome back catcher Brian O'Keefe, infielders Ronnierd Garcia and Leobaldo PIna, and outfielders Jhohan Acevedo and Kenny Peoples-Walls from the 2014 squad. Meanwhile, manager Johnny Rodriguez leads a group of seven players who played for the 2014 Johnson City club, including McKinney, Martinez and infielders Casey Grayson and Cole Lankford, among others
