June 21, 2015 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
West Virginia Black Bears News Release
The West Virginia Black Bears won their first two games in franchise history, sweeping the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Monongalia County Ballpark. OF LOGAN HILL'S walk-off RBI-single in game one gave the Black Bears a 5-4 win before the club completed the sweep with a 4-2 game two victory.
Hill's dramatics capped off a three-run seventh-inning rally with his bases-loaded walk-off hit (minor league teams play seven-inning games in doubleheaders). Trailing the Scrappers by 4-2, INF MITCHELL TOLMAN started the inning with a double and INF DAVID ANDRIESE walked to get the Black Bears offense started. OF MAXIMO RIVERA singled to make it 4-3 Scrappers before OF TYLER MOORE added another hit to tie the game. That set the stage for Hill to win the game with his walk-off single.
Beginning the second game in similar fashion as the first, Hill, double-downed the left field line to give the Black Bears an early 1-0 lead. Moore then stepped in to continue the show with a 2-run single to extend the score 3-0. With two hits and two RBIs Moore remained on fire at the plate throughout the second game. It was reliever DOVYDAS NEVERAUSKUS who pitched 2.1 innings only giving up four hits and two-runs (1 earned) that earned the second win for the Black Bears.
The Black Bears will now start a six game road trip with three games against the Williamsport Crosscutters followed by a three game series with the Hudson Valley Renegades.
