Connecticut Wins First Game of Year

NORWICH, CT-The Connecticut Tigers (1-2) picked up their first win of 2015 with a 1-0 win over Tri-City (2-1) on Sunday afternoon at Dodd Stadium.

For the second time in the series the Connecticut Tigers scored the first run of the game. With the game scoreless in the bottom of the fourth Will Allen, making his Connecticut Tigers debut, singled with one out in the inning. First basemen Corey Baptist and shortstop Adrian Alfaro followed with singles to load the bases. With two-outs and the bases still loaded designated hitter Aaron Sayers making his season debut grounded a ball to the Tri-City third basemen Cesar Gonzalez who bobbled the ball allowing the run to score and giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

The Tigers loaded the bases again in the bottom of the sixth but where unable to extend their lead in a game that was dominated by pitching. Eudis Idrogo (1-0) got the start for the Tigers on the mound and was very impressive. Indrogo threw 5 innings allowing just 2 hits and striking out 6. Tri-City received a strong start from Dean Deetz (0-1) who also went 5 innings allowing just one unearned run on 4 hits and 3 strikeouts.

Connecticut used two relief pitchers to secure their first win of the season. Andres Tejada pitched two scoreless innings and then turned the ball over to Jordan Smith (SV 1) who threw two perfect innings to pick up the save.

The Connecticut Tigers are the New York-Penn League affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play a 76 game schedule that runs from mid June through early September. 2015 season tickets, group tickets, mini plans, individual game tickets, and team merchandise are now on sale!
