Cutters Snap Slump; rout Spikes 9-4

The Williamsport Crosscutters snapped a three game losing streak on Thursday night against the State College Spikes. The Cutters erased an early 2-0 Spikes lead to complete the comeback and improve to 4-1 this season against State College. The Cutters retake a 4 ½ game lead over the Spikes for 1st place in the Pinckney Division while holding onto the best record in the league.

The Crosscutters would see State College jump out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning against Jose Taveras. He entered the game with five wins on the season, second only to Mitch Gueller (7). The Spikes delivered a pair of doubles to take the advantage. Williamsport would back up Taveras scoring a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game 2-2. A Venn Biter double kicked off the inning and would be followed by Jan Hernandez's 10th home run of the season.

Williamsport would turn the offense into another gear against Spikes starter Jorge Rodriguez in the sixth inning. Brendon Hayden delivered an RBI single to tie the game 3-3 after the Spikes rallied in the fifth. Biter would follow with an RBI single of his own to give the Cutters a 4-3 lead. Hernandez added his third RBI of the night to make it 5-3 with a fielder's choice groundout.

The Cutters finished the night by scoring three runs in the top of the ninth inning to take a 9-3 lead. State College would add a run in the bottom of the ninth inning against Rob Tasin to make it 9-4. Tasin would pick up the final out of the game via the strikeout. Taveras moves to 6-2 on the season as he worked 6 2/3 innings allowing three runs on four hits. Taveras struck out a season high seven batters while walking just one. Williamsport returns home on Friday night to host Auburn for one game before hitting the road to finish the three game series on the road.
