Wappingers Falls, NY (8/20/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades were defeated by the Connecticut Tigers by a score of 6-1 on Thursday evening at Dutchess Stadium.
Hudson Valley struck for a run in the bottom of the first inning as shortstop Michael Russell walked and moved to second base on a single from left fielder Joe McCarthy. Right fielder Manny Sanchez grounded out into a fielder's choice but a throwing error allowed Russell to score, giving the Renegades a 1-0 lead.
Renegades starting pitcher Cameron Varga (2-5) faced the minimum through the first three innings but ran into trouble in the fourth inning as he gave up three runs via a RBI triple from designated hitter Cam Gibson and a two-run home run from first baseman Corey Baptist. The Tigers added to their lead in the top of the fifth inning when left fielder Jacob Kapstein tripled and scored later in the inning on a throwing error, giving Connecticut a 4-1 lead.
