Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release

Thursday's game against the Muckdogs (24-33) would determine the season series.

Leading 2-1 heading into the ninth, the Scrappers (26-30) dropped the season series finale to Batavia 7-2.

The Scrappers and Muckdogs were tied at two going into the bottom of the sixth. The Scrappers scored two. Li-Jen Chu and Jodd Carter scored on a two-run single for Silento Sayles.

Batavia got a run in the top of the eighth on an RBI single for Roy Morales to score Stone Garrett.

All things changed in the top of the ninth. Travis Brewster reached on an error by Willi Castro. Brewster later scored on an RBI bloop single for Brad Haynal. That tied the game, but the questionable call was the throw to the plate because it was a force. The Scrappers argued Salters had his foot on the plate to get the force, but the run counted.

Now tied at two, Anfernee Seymour was granted home plate on a balk. That allowed the Muckdogs to take a 3-2 lead. Travis Fryman came out of the dugout to argue the call and after arguing with home plate umpire John Durante and field umpire Ryan Wilhelms, Fryman was ejected from the ballgame.

Angel Reyes hit a grand slam to left, and that was all the scoring.

The Scrappers welcome the Black Bears for three games at Eastwood Field. Dario Agrazal takes the hill for West Virginia against Kieran Lovegrove for Mahoning Valley. First pitch is at 7:05 on Sports Radio 1240.
