Syracuse Crunch News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. --- Grigori Denisenko scored the game-winner as the Syracuse Crunch topped the Rochester Americans, 4-3, in overtime tonight at the Blue Cross Arena.
The victory puts the Crunch on a four-game win streak and advances the team to 7-5-1-0 on the season. Syracuse is now 2-2-1-0 in the 12-game season series with Rochester.
Crunch goaltender Sam Montembeault stopped 22-of-25 between the pipes. Stefanos Lekkas turned aside 25-of-29 in net for the Amerks. Syracuse was unable to convert on two power play opportunities, while Rochester went 1-for-3.
The Crunch opened scoring 1:35 into the second period when Noah Juulsen set Scott Wilson up for a breakaway that he tucked in five-hole. The Amerks responded and tied the game at 5:07 when Brandon Biro cut down the slot and beat Montembeault on the backhand.
Syracuse went back on top with two goals in just 20 seconds late in the middle frame. At 14:54, Alex Barre-Boulet got a stick on Devante Stephens's left-point slap shot. Boris Katchouk quickly followed and scored with a wrister from the left circle during a 2-on-1.
Rochester stole another one back on the power play with 3:02 remaining in the second period when Oskari Laaksonen ripped a slap shot through traffic from the blue line.
Biro netted his second of the night to tie the game for a second time and eventually force overtime 8:47 into the third period. He was down low to tip Mattias Samuelsson's right point shot.
Two minutes into the overtime frame, Denisenko circled around the right face-off dot and sent in the game-winner to lift the Crunch over the Amerks.
Syracuse is back in action on Wednesday when they travel for to face the Utica Comets.
