San Antonio Rampage News Release
GLENDALE, ARIZONA -- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have recalled right wing Steven Goertzen from their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage. In addition, right wing Kevin Porter has been re-assigned to San Antonio.
Goertzen, 24, has collected two assists in eight games with the Coyotes this season, the first points of his NHL career. He has also played in 42 games with San Antonio this season, recording 5-6-11 and 69 penalty minutes (PIM). Last season, he appeared in 81 AHL games with Syracuse and San Antonio, finishing with 9-8-17 and 106 PIM. Goertzen also scored one goal while playing in all seven of San Antonio's playoff contests.
The 6-foot-2, 218-pound Goertzen has appeared in 54 career NHL games, with Phoenix and Columbus. He made his NHL debut on Oct. 21, 2005 and went on to play 39 games for the Blue Jackets during the 2005-06 season, finishing with 44 PIM. In 2006-07, he appeared in seven games for Columbus.
A native of Stony Plain, Alberta, Goertzen has played in 288 career AHL games with Syracuse and San Antonio, recording 32-39-71 and 455 PIM. Goertzen was originally drafted by Columbus in the seventh round (225th overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. The Coyotes acquired him from Columbus in exchange for Nate DiCasmirro on Feb. 28, 2008.
Porter, 22, has recorded 5-5-10 and four PIM in 34 games this season for the Coyotes, including two game-winning goals. He has also registered 4-4-8 in 14 games with San Antonio this year. The 6-foot, 190-pound Porter won the 2008 Hobey Baker Award as college hockey's top player last season as a senior at the University of Michigan.
