Kalamazoo Wings Vs Wheeling Nailers

Wings Event Center Kalamazoo, Michigan

Saturday, April 4, 2015 8:00 PM

Game Preview

Tonight may be the most important game of the season, as the Kalamazoo Wings host the Wheeling Nailers at the Wings Event Center. This will be the final regular season encounter between the teams. So far this season the K-Wings are 1-3-0-0 against the Nailers.

This evening will close out a brief two-game home stand for Kalamazoo. The K-Wings lost last night 6-3 to the Toledo Walleye. Looking for some separation in the standings, the K-Wings are two points ahead of the Cincinnati Cyclones for third and three points in front of the Nailers.

Wheeling will have to get use to life on the road. Including tonight, the Nailers will play four out of their last five games away from the WesBanco Arena. Battling for a playoff spot, the Nailers are just one point behind Cyclones for fourth place in the division.

Heating Up

Forwards Matt Caria and Gergo Nagy enter tonight looking to extend streaks. Caria begins the night on a four-game point streak, while Nagy has secured points in three straight games.

Nearing a Milestone

Tonight forward Patrick Kennedy will reach a personal milestone. With his first shift of the game, Kennedy will have played in his 200th career game.

Dubious Honor

Last night, the K-Wings surrendered a three-goal performance to Toledo's Kyle Bonis. The hat trick marked the second time in as many games that Kalamazoo has allowed an opposing player to register a hat trick.

Magic Number

Kalamazoo's magic number for clinching a playoff berth is seven points. The K-Wings can chip away at that number with victories (2 points), overtime/shootout losses (1 point) or if Cincinnati losses in regulation (2 points) or in overtime/shootouts (1 point).

An Army of One

Wheeling's Derek Army is having a stellar rookie campaign. Army leads all ECHL rookies with 242 shots, is ranked second in overall scoring with 60 points and fourth in goals scored with 26.

Giving Up the Shorties

The Nailers have surrendered 16 shorthanded goals this season. The 16 shorthanders are most allowed in the ECHL.

A Banner Week

On Tuesday, Wheeling's Sahir Gill has named the Sher-Wood Hockey/ECHL Player of the Week. Gill recorded nine points (5 goals, 4 assists) in four games last week for the Nailers.

Road Tested

If the Nailers are going to be headed to the playoffs, they will have to do it on the road. Including tonight, four out of Wheeling's last five games are away from the WesBanco Arena.
